Great Schools for Every Milwaukee Child

The November 3 general election is your chance to demand better.

Why It Matters: Key Stats

~45,000

Milwaukee students in public charter and private Choice programs — roughly 1 in 2 MKE students

1 in 5

Wisconsin (WI) students (160k+) educated outside their home district

60%

of WI voters support school choice

<1 in 5

students performing on grade level in basic subjects

  • 49% of MPS schools are below lowered state expectations vs. 16.5% of private schools and 9% of public charter schools

  • MPS faces a looming $400M fiscal deficit — the district is not ready for 45k additional students

  • Wisconsin spends $14B annually on K–12 education; the funding formula is broken and must be reformed

  • Milwaukee's North Side is in an education crisis — a generation of failure demands action

Three Gaps. One Mandate.

Milwaukee families are asked to accept less — less funding, less honesty, fewer great schools. We're fighting to close all three gaps at once, for every child in every kind of school.

The Funding Gap

Fairly fund ALL our students. Wisconsin's school funding model is broken. It funds systems instead of students, and it shortchanges the children who need the most support. We're calling for a student-based funding formula that follows every child — including full-day 4K and special education.

The Accountability Gap

Accountability means telling the truth — and acting on it. Fewer than 1 in 5 Milwaukee students are performing on grade level in basic subjects, and the state lowered its expectations rather than raise its game. Real accountability measures outcomes, not inputs. It answers to students and families. And it requires action when a school is persistently failing — no matter what sector that school is in.

The School Quality Gap

Great schools exist in Milwaukee. We need more of them. Families shouldn't have to win a lottery to get a great education. Milwaukee needs a real plan to grow the number of high-quality seats across every sector — starting on the North Side, where the crisis is most severe.

SCHOOL FUNDING

Tell your legislators: Fix Wisconsin's school funding formula. Every student counts — fund them equally.

HIGH STANDARDS

Support high standards for our kids. They deserve better. Tell your legislators: raise the bar.

SCHOOL CHOICE

Roughly 45,000 Milwaukee students are in public charter and private Choice programs — about half the city's kids. 1 in 5 students statewide use school choice, and 60% of Wisconsin voters support it. Do your legislators know that?

Read the North Side Education Crisis report.

The data is clear. The crisis is real. Tell your legislators: we need a plan for more high-quality schools.
